Tryout Information
Pre-Tryout Practices: Tuesday, August 20th, Friday August 23rd. Report to the course by 11:20am. We tee off at 12:00noon.
Tryouts: Monday-Thursday, August 26th-August 29th, 2019
Daily Schedule:
Monday, 8/26: Report to the 18 Mile Creek Golf Course -(Town of Hamburg Golf Course) at the clubhouse patio near the putting green by 11:45am if you did not come to the pre-tryout practices. All others should check the NYSPHSAA app for tee times and report not later than 20 minutes before your tee time. We will begin teeing off at 12:00 noon.. Play should be done between 1:15pm-2:00pm.
Tuesday, 8/27-Thursday, 8/29: We start teeing of at 12:00noon. Check the NYSPHSAA app for your tee time. Report no later than 20 minutes before your tee time.
The team will be selected after these 4 days of tryouts.
Friday, 8/30: Team meeting at 11:00am, practice begins at 12:00noon. Players will be given a take home packet for parents.
This is a four day tryout where each player plays 9 holes on each day. (Friday is a practice). Your top three nine hole scores will be used for team selection. We will play rain or shine, so be prepared either way. You will find out at the end of the day on Thursday if you are selected to the team. There will be a players meeting on Friday morning. We will then have practice following the meeting.
Most communication will be done through Remind.com app. Download to your phone, and sign up for this “class” by texting @birdiegolf to 81010. Do this ASAP to get summer information. You will also need to download the NYSPHSAA golf app for tee times and score recording. Finally, you must register through FamilyID (see below) and have a current physical on file or in hand in order to participate in any manner.
Dress attire and equipment: Please wear a collared shirt to tryouts and all practices. Players need their own equipment. This includes golf clubs and bag, golf shoes w/soft or plastic spikes, golf glove, golf umbrella, water bottle and a snack.
Eligibility requirements
YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING TAKEN CARE OF BY THURSDAY, AUGUST 8TH IN ORDER TO TRY OUT FOR THE TEAM:
1. Register on FamilyID www.familyid.com/hamburg-schools-athletics
2. You must have a current physical on file with the nurse and/or HPER office. Call or email their office to check your status. 646-3344. You may fax a physical to 646-3345.
Other important information: We practice Monday-Friday in September and 1st week of October. We may have some matches on Fridays this year. Students should be aware that they are responsible for their own transportation to the Hamburg Golf Course after school for practices and our away match at Brierwood Country Club. They should also be picked up from the golf course after practices or home matches. For away matches, we will have a bus that leaves from and returns to the High School. Golf clubs are not allowed on the regular school bus runs, but we can take them on the bus when we go to away matches.
Keys to making the team : Practice and play as much as possible! The team will be composed of the top 12 to 15 golfers. Seniors will generally need to finish in the top 8 to make the team. (The reason for this is that if you do not finish in the top 10, you will most likely not start during the season. That roster spot would be better filled by a younger prospect that could develop into a starter in the future.) Junior High students need to finish in the top 8 to make the team. This is an ECIC rule. However, there may be a team manager spot available for a good young prospect.
