The Learning Center can help! |
The Staff:
Getting Students to TLC: Students can request a pass from any study hall or classroom teacher and come to The Learning Center to work. Students can choose to stay in TLC for the entire period, or they may return to study hall or class after receiving assistance. Schedules are posted throughout the building listing the teachers (in addition to Mrs. Reese) who volunteer their professional expertise in TLC throughout the school day.
Student Services:
Ø TLC provides one-on-one assistance with homework, research papers, assignments, and projects in all academic subjects.
Ø TLC helps students to review and prepare for tests. We have many resources to develop study strategies and test-taking skills. We also provide preparation for Regents exams.
Ø We work with students to develop reading, writing, critical thinking, and math skills. We also evaluate students' learning and brain processing styles and suggest ways that students can capitalize on their individual strengths and unique talents.
Ø We assist with organization, time management, note-taking, and goal-setting.
Ø TLC helps students with college application essays and job resumes.
Ø Students are encouraged to work in TLC with their classmates on assignments and projects and/or to set up study groups to review for tests.
Ø Teacher volunteers are available throughout the school day for one-on-one tutoring or assistance; we also match interested students with qualified student tutors.
Teacher Services:
Ø Teachers are encouraged to keep class notes, assignments, supplemental and reinforcement materials, and learning resources/activities in TLC for students to use. This can be especially helpful for students who have been absent!
Ø Mrs. Godwin and Mrs. Reese work closely with classroom teachers – team teaching, presenting mini-lessons, developing resources or activities, collaborating on assignments, and assisting with projects or labs.
Parent Services: The Learning Center encourages parents to refer their children for academic help, to find out more about learning and the brain, and to share their expertise by volunteering their time.
