Babcock:
The award is named after Tom Borrelli, a News sports reporter and editor, died Nov. 20, 2008 of injuries suffered less than two weeks earlier when he fell down the press box stairway at All High Stadium while covering a football game.
As a tribute to Borrelli and the sport he loved, a committee led by News Sports Columnist Bob DiCesare established the Tom Borrelli Memorial Award and Scholarship Fund.
The award winners are selected by The News' high school sports department after consultation with local scouts and coaches.
Babcock was chosen from a talented Class of 2012 which included fellow All-Americans Nathan Gowen of Amherst, Brendan Barren of West Seneca West, Ryan Jurek of Hamburg, Thomas Lipomi of Hamburg and Tyler Conroy of Bishop Timon-St. Jude.

Obenshain:
The inaugural "Ox" Award goes to Hamburg's Obenshain. The two-time All-Western New York first-teamer and a five-year starter led Hamburg to its first sectional title since 2008. She had 58 goals and 59 assists this season while she was also a standout on defense and on draw controls.
"The Ox Award is the definition of Amanda," said Hamburg coach Katy Ryan.
"The last two seasons Amanda showed perseverance and dedication to not only the program but her teammates."

"Second half of state regional loss to Irondequoit was disappointing, but the Bulldogs (18-2) were still the best of WNY boys lacrosse, and earn a top 10 spot thanks to some national-caliber wins that left them in the top 50 in the nation in two major polls (No. 45 in laxpower.com and No. 32 in ESPNHS)." http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/high-schools/article940302.ece
