Scholastic Reading Counts is a reading motivation and management program that helps teachers encourage and monitor independent reading.

Here's how it works:

Students select books from the SRC's database of over 49,000 titles--from a wide variety of authors, themes and reading levels.

Students read the books at their own pace.

Students take short quizzes on the computer to verify comprehension.

Student Motivation is Built Right In:

1. Kids read what they like. Students choose from age and level-appropriate books — literature that appeals to their interests.

2. Readers get instant feedback. Personalized quiz results and progress reports let students track their achievement.

3. Students can earn points based on the length and complexity of each book they read, helping to establish concrete goals. Points and scores can be used as motivational tools at a teacher's discretion.

4. Kids' opinions count! Students rate the books they have read, and teachers can print reports of class or school favorites.

Look for the GREEN, YELLOW and RED labels on the book spines to locate a Reading Counts book!
