• Bring all supplies daily: binder, composition notebook, DEAR book, at least 2 pens,or pencils, take home folder, and planner.  It is very important that students come to class ready to learn.
    • Use the planner as directed: Please check your child's planner to make sure they are writing in it daily and completing homework.  There should be something written each day from ELA class.  I always have a message written and give the direction to copy it (both on the projected welcome screen, and verbally). Homework is expected to be neat and accurate.  It is provided to reinforce concepts taught in class.
    • Pay attention and participate: Students get more from class when they volunteer responses and seek answers to questions or confusion.  This is also a great way to model strong learning behavior for others.  Students need to leave extra distractions (objects) in lockers, as they don't belong in ELA class.
    • Stay Organized:  In the ELA binder, students should have 4 tabs (Graded, Reading, Writing/ Grammar, Vocab) Each time a resource is given, or a graded paper returned, students are clearly directed where this should go.  Students that start to shove papers in various folders, an accordion folder,or a take home folder, generally experience difficulty finding those material later.
    • Music Lessons: Because your student will miss valuable instruction, he/she needs to see me during Study Hall/Dear to get the classwork missed,  as well as turn in homework due that day. Students are to sign out and verbally let me know the day before the lesson.  In the event of test, students will have to reschedule the lesson.
    • Check the Student Portal Regularly:  The student portal is an amazing tool provided to students so they can be aware and responsible for their own progress.  If a question arises regarding a grade, it should be brought to my attention so things can be clarified.  Parents should also check the Parent Portal to keep apprised of the student's current academic state.  The counseling center can help you if you are having difficulty getting started with this great tool.
