Counseling Services
The counseling program at CAS is comprehensive and developmentally-based. Every student receives a series of classroom lessons taught by the Counselor. Lessons include the following topics: "I-Care Rules", self-awareness, social skills, feelings expression, anger management, friendship skills, empathy, bullying awareness and prevention.Counseling services also include individual and group counseling. Students are referred by school staff or parents/guardians, for a variety of reasons: adjustment issues, academic difficulties, family issues (separation/divorce, death of a family member, problems within the parent-child relationship), friendship/peer problems and concerns regarding classroom behavior. Additionally, the Counselor facilitates the Peer Helper Program, which includes a select group of fifth grade students who serve as volunteers to their fellow students and teachers.
