Welcome to Room 128!
Our fifth grade classroom is a very busy place. From the time the children enter at 8:50am, they are actively participating in all regular subject areas and also some unique areas to fifth grade like Health with Mrs. Gallagher and Writers Workshop. Lunch bunch is held for any students who need to get caught up on any incomplete work. We eat in the classroom so anyone can get help if needed also. After school sessions may also be necessary. We will be continuing the math series this year called Expressions. We will not be switching classes but will get together with Mrs. Sayodoff's class for team teaching at times.
Many demands are placed on the children in preparation for sending them over to the Middle School next year. I will do my best to prepare your children to be successful in their next educational experience. Email me any time with questions, concerns, or good news! Middle School will be here before we know it! The 6th grade counselors will be visiting us in April and we will be visiting and touring the Middle School also. The children will be able to ask any and all questions they may have. They are both very worthwhile experiences.
Study Island, IXL Math, And Raz kids are web sites that I highly recommend for children to practice their math skills. Remember to use math flash cards daily! Mrs. Litwin's computer lab site will give them many opportunities to practice their skills. Also, check out my interactive websites link.
Please encourage your children to read, read, read! The state recommends 25 books a year for fifth graders. Starting in October, the children are required to read 2 books per month of over 100 pages. The report itself will be explained on the first day of every month. Look for them in their take home folders each month. The children have also received a log to keep track of books read throughout the year. These do require parent signatures. Awards will be given in June to students who meet the 25 book expectation. Extra credit opportunities are offered every month to all students who are interested. They will also be explained on the first of every month.
Fifth grade is a cool place to be!
